Legal Outreach Brief

Prepared for Marin
Business Development & Client Relations Intern

A field guide for thoughtful, high-frequency outreach to immigration firms.

01 / YOUR ROLE

You are the front half of a two-person sales motion: you set, Jack closes.

You are the front half of a two-person sales motion: you set, Jack closes.

You are the front half of a two-person sales motion: you set, Jack closes.

How you’ll build the relationship

You're running outbound: calls, email, and LinkedIn. The goal on any single touch isn't to close a retainer (yet), it's to move a firm one step closer, so that when a case comes up, Omega Counsel is who they call. You're not “customer service” or “marketing”; you're the front half of a two-person business development motion: you build the relationship, Jack closes.

A win looks like

• A scheduled intro call with Jack: email captured and booked directly.
• A scoped single project, such as a flat-fee brief or motion.
• A confirmed “call me when it comes up” with a clear next-touch date.

Flag anything time-sensitive to Jack and Evelyn immediately.

What You'll Gain

This is structured to give you real, quantifiable experience: the business-development counterpart to how we run our legal internship program. Different seat, same company, same industry. High-ticket sales teams rarely take on interns. The offers are premium, the buyers are attorneys and firm partners, not casual browsers, and one badly-handled conversation with the wrong person can cost real money and real trust. That risk is exactly why this experience is usually locked behind "you need experience to get experience." You're skipping that line. From day one, you're on the phone and in the inbox with practicing attorneys, on a real $5,000–$6,000/month offer, for a business that depends on you getting it right.

Three things you're actually building.

Three things you're actually building.

Three things you're actually building.

I

Executive Communication

How to talk to attorneys and decision-makers without sounding scripted, salesy, or junior: adjusting tone, pace, and word choice to match who's actually on the other end of the line.

II

Psychological Read

What actually earns trust with someone who has options: patience, restraint, and knowing when to lead versus when to just listen. Most people never get coached on this, they guess.

III

Relationship Management

Real high-ticket deals aren't won on one call. You're learning how to stay in someone's orbit for weeks or months without being annoying and make the sale feel like their idea.

III

Composure Under Low Odds

Most calls won't convert. Staying sharp, professional, and consistent through that call after call, is the actual skill every closer, founder, and dealmaker had to learn somewhere.

Who you'll be after this

By the end of this, "internship" undersells what actually happened. You'll have real reps: plural, weekly, talking directly to attorneys and law firm partners about a premium, recurring-revenue offer, on a live pipeline for a real business. Not a role-play. Not a low-stakes retail floor. It's the same expertise behind B2B sales, agency new-business, financial services, recruiting, founder-led sales; anywhere the deal is won in a conversation with someone who has other options. Most people your age won't get a real shot at that until years into a career, if ever. You're getting it now, on the record, with results you can point to.

02 / OPERATING SYSTEM

Every channel has a different job.

Every channel has a different job.

Every channel has a different job.

How you'll actually reach firms

Most cold calls start with a legal assistant, not the attorney. Most firms (paralegals/assistants that answer the phones) try to send you straight to email. Assume every call's real goal is a name, reminding a partner we want to work with them, a direct partner email, and a reason to follow up , with the partner attorney actually picking up as the bonus outcome, not the baseline.

I

Phone

Get past the gate, confirm who to talk to, and occasionally reach the attorney. A good assistant conversation is a full win.

II

Email

The channel firms actually respond on. Every call reached or not ends in an email the same day.

III

LinkedIn

A parallel touch. Connect, and follow up referencing the same thing you said on the call or in the email. Firms recognize a name faster the third time they see it.

Daily workflow

Warm leads first. Work the check-in list. Log every call with the outcome and follow-up date. Keep LinkedIn short and specific. Flag anything time-sensitive the same day. Before signing off, record exactly who needs the next touch so nothing goes cold. We will provide email templates, a phone script, and LinkedIn templates as a follow-up resource, so you have exact language for every one of these touches.

03 / PRICING & THE OFFER

Make the first yes easy.

Make the first yes easy.

Most firms will want to do flat-fee or hourly. Monthly retainers save them money (Jack puts extensive attention/research towards briefs, charging hourly ends up costing firms more), retainers allows firms to roll over any un-used credits to the next month.

Start with a scoped project

Pre-Hearing and BIA briefs $1,000–$1,700 · memoranda $700–$1,000 · country conditions research $500 · petitions, motions, and responses $500–$1,500. 50% is due upfront; 50% upon completion.

The main offer

$5,000/mo flexible credit for variable work; unused amounts carry forward. Most firms will want to choose this offer because it gives them the bandwidth to delegate their legal writing to us without having to pay for multiple projects or worry about billable hours. $6,000/mo monthly retainer for up to 40 hours of any service (the primary offer), effective at $150/hr. Retainers are paid in full upfront.

05 / HOW TO TALK ABOUT IT

The work is serious. Your presence should be too.

The work is serious. Your presence should be too.

The work is serious. Your presence should be too.

The conversation

Keep it about their caseload, bandwidth, and deadlines not us. Do not hard-sell urgency. Take one clear yes at a time. A retainer should feel like the natural conclusion of what they’ve already told you.

Non-negotiable

No cursing. Absolutely nothing unprofessional. Speak as if you are representing your own business. Never misrepresent a lead, a reply, or an engagement only describe exactly what happened.

IF IT COMES UP

“We operate as the attorney of record’s contract counsel, all work stays under your firm’s supervision and privilege.”
